My introduction to scuba diving was like so many other stories I hear from people who walk through the front door here at Pacific Watersports. I was on vacation in Hawaii, and responded to an ad in an activities brochure, "Discover Scuba Diving". One phone call and $32.95 later I found myself and three other would be scuba divers were being lead on an underwater adventure by a local instructor. That was it; all I could think about the rest of the trip was getting back home and learning how to dive.
When I returned home I contacted the nearest PADI Dive Center (which just happened to be Roger's Pacific Watersports, now known as Pacific Watersports) and enrolled in their next Open Water Diver course. Six weeks later, in the spring of 1986 I received my certification. That was just the beginning. Unable to find friends to dive with as often as I wanted, I began taking continued education classes. First the Advanced Open Water course, then the Rescue Diver course, before long I was signing up for every Specialty course the dive center offered.
I enjoyed the training programs so much, that by the fall of 1987 I had become a PADI Divemaster. Now I was able to assist with classes. Helping others learn to dive was great. There are few things I find more satisfying than seeing the look on the face of a student just after they have completed their first open water dive. I became an Instructor in March of 1989 and in May of 1990 a Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
After spending many rewarding years involved in diver training and having certified hundreds of divers, my focus has changed for now. I now spend most of my time in the shop. Where I enjoy assisting customers with equipment selection and configuration. Finding the right equipment that fits their needs and diving style.
